"Born in Plymouth, James has spent most of his life in rural Morayshire. From an early age, he exhibited a keen eye and love for the natural world as well as an admiration for designed landscapes.

Graduating in geography from Durham University, James went on to gain a masters degree in landscape design at Newcastle University. Coming from an artistic family he has followed in the footsteps of his mother who won several awards for her botanical illustrations. In April 2016 he featured in the Financial Times article, The art of hand drawn map-making by Emma Crichton-Miller.

In this age of computer-generated clinical images James has developed his own style of attractive, hand-drawn maps of estates and gardens as they are today. He creates a unique and personal record, collaborating closely with clients to develop line drawings and vignettes to personalise each piece of work.

James is also a photographer and exhibits his photographs to raise funds for various charities."

“James encapsulated the features
